‘Low chances of depression over the Bay turning into cyclone’: BMD

The depression over the East central and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and now lies over the same area, and there are chances it may turn into a deep depression.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a special weather bulletin around 6:00am today.

The depression over the Bay may turn into a deep depression and its chance of turning into a cyclone is very low, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallik.

Maritime ports have been asked to hoist distant cautionary signal number one. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay also have been asked to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.

They also advised vessels to not venture out into deep sea.
