Arms and narcotics cases: Charges against ex-Jubo League leader Samrat accepted
A Dhaka court today took cognisance of charges against expelled Dhaka South Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in two cases filed under arms and narcotics control acts.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka passed order after scrutinizing case dockets and other relevant documents in presence of Samrat at the courtroom.
The court also rejected Samrat's bail petitions after his lawyer moved those on medical grounds.
The court fixed November 30 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the cases.
Meantime, a group of supporters gathered on the court premises and demanded release of their leader Samrat immediately. They also carried different banners and placards.
On October 6 last year, Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Samrat, former president of Dhaka South Jubo League, and his close aide Enamul Haque Arman, former vice-president of the same unit, in Cumilla after raiding a house near Indian border.
He came under the spotlight after Rab busted his illegal casino business at different sporting clubs in Dhaka. He was expelled from the Jubo League following his arrest.
