Govt to evaluate climate change projects by third party to address irregularities

The government has decided to evaluate climate change projects by outsourcing through a third party and will take action against project directors if any irregularities are found.

The decision came in the meeting of Climate Change Trust Fund board held at the ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

They decided to intensify the monitoring of ongoing projects and have also decided to extend their period by one year.

The board also approved revised proposals for inter-sectoral coordination of 18 ongoing projects and applications for deadline extensions of 40 projects.

Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin said transparency and quality of projects being implemented under funding of the Climate Trust Fund will be ensured. The government has so far implemented 789 projects with funding of Climate Change Trust Fund.

The Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change made the remarks while addressing the 53rd meeting of the Board of Trustees on Climate Change held through video conference.

Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Agriculture minister, Tazul Islam, minister for Local Government Division, AK Abdul Momen, Foreign minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Food minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Shipping, Zaheed Farooque, State Minister State Minister for Water Resources, Fazila tun Nesa, state minister for Women and Children were present in the meeting.
