Food Minister Kamrul Islam today said Jamaat-e-Islami would be banned through legal process by 2016, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Jamaat cannot be allowed to do politics on the soil of Bangladesh, the minister said while addressing an anti-hartal human chain programme in front of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, the daily said.
Jamaat called the dawn-to-dusk hartal protesting death penalty of its chief and war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami.
Source of the party’s finance would also be blocked, the minister hoped.
The programme was organised by Ramna thana unit of ruling Awami League.
AL publicity secretary Hasan Mahmud said people of the country had rejected the hartal.
