Sensational Scholastica in Match 8 of The Daily Star GENIUS

Match 8 of The Daily Star GENIUS powered by Walton Smart Fridge, an online inter-school quiz competition, took place on November 23 between Scholastica Mirpur, Cardiff International School, and Manarat Dhaka International School and College. The square was drawn, and the duel was fought with knowledge and guile, with questions answered about George Orwell and Sunil Gangopadhyay, World War II and the Liberation War, and MSG and Chui Jhal.

Raynul Huda Chowdhury from Scholastica Mirpur came out as the winner of this match, with Abdul Muhaiminul from Manarat being the challenger at second. Abid Hossain Rabi from Cardiff ended up third, but what captured the imagination in this contest was Raynul's 20-question streak at the beginning of the quiz, and the other two contestants being utterly awestruck. Raynul got the answers to every question right until the 21st, when a question about Tyson Fury finally stopped him. But by then, his lead was already huge. The next handful of questions saw a slump in form for all the participants, with Raynul's lead being briefly threatened by Muhaimin. In the end, Raynul managed to stretch his lead out once again, and after 40 gruelling questions, the results were in. In the end, the leaderboard put Raynul at the top with a massive total of 1962 points, a fair way ahead of second placed Muhaiminul at 1489 points. Third placed was Rabi, who finished with a respectable 684 points.

"I was nervous before the game, and it increased when the streak got broken. But I stayed calm since, and now I feel relieved," said a cheerful Raynul at the end. He proceeds to the next round to compete with the other winners in the semifinal round and become the first ever The Daily Star GENIUS.
