'Political people involved in drug trading'
All political parties must be committed to free the country from the adverse effects of narcotics items, Additional Director General Amir Hossain of Department of Narcotics Control observed today.
“People of all political parties are engaged in drug trading, resulting in around 70 percent youths being addicted to drugs,” Hossain said while addressing a function in Hajiganj of Chandpur.
“We need a strong commitment of the political parties against drug trading. Only then, we will be able to free the country from the adverse impact of the narcotic items,” he also said.
He added that narcotic items are being smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar and India that cannot be stopped by deploying police, members of Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, reports our Chandpur correspondent.
“We all will have to ignore the drug traders and addicts to build a narcotics free country,” he further said.
Taking part in the function, Manzurul Islam, a deputy director of the department, said around 30 lakh people are being addicted with yaba tablets.
Of them, students of English medium schools and private universities are being targeted by the drug traders, he said at the programme organised as part of the anti-drug campaign.
