Illegal sand extraction: 2 police personnel hurt in attack on mobile court in Khagrachhari
Two police personnel were injured after a few men suspected to be illegally extracting sand attacked a mobile court drive at Perachhara area of Khagrachhari today.
"The incident took place in the afternoon when the culprits hurled brickbats at mobile court officials and accompanying police personnel leaving constables Mehedi Hasan (24) and Md Al Noman (21) injured," said Golam Afsar, inspector (investigation) at Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station.
"On information about illegal sand lifting in the area, we went to conduct a drive there around 3:00pm. When we reached there, a group of sand lifters suddenly started hurling brick chips at us," said Mohammad Sayed Momen Majumdar, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Khagrachhari who led the mobile court.
"We seized a sand laden trailer truck from the spot. We are now trying to identify those who attacked us," the official added.
"The criminals managed to flee the scene," Inspector Golam Afsar said, adding that filing of a case in this connection was underway.
