Pro-AL panel sweeps Dhaka Bar Association polls
Awami League-backed Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad won 15 posts, including president, while BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkya Panel got eight posts, including general secretary, of Dhaka Bar Association for the year 2021-2022.
Advocate Abdul Baten was elected president from the Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnay Parishad while Khandaker Md Hozrat Ali was elected general secretary from the BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkya Panel.
Abdul Baten got 4,473 votes while his rival candidate Md Mosleh Uddin Jashim got 3,934 votes. Khandaker Md Hozrat Ali got 4,261 votes while his rival candidate Md Firojur Rahman Monto got 4,073 votes.
The other winners from ruling party-backed White Panel are two assistant general secretaries, library secretary, cultural secretary, office secretary, sports secretary, social welfare secretary and six executive members while other winners from BNP-backed Blue Panel are two vice-presidents and five executive members.
The election commission counted the votes on Friday which took over 12 hours and the commission declared the result at 2:00am today.
The two-day annual election of Dhaka Bar Association for the year 2021-2022 was held on February 24 and 25 where 8,706 voters, out of 17,756, cast their votes.
A committee led by Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Abdullah Abu conducted the election.
