Must give Bangabandhu the honour and dignity he deserves: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said their party considers Bangabandhu's March 7 speech a part of Liberation War history and they do not want to undermine him.
"We won't just observe March 7, but also March 2, March 3…these incidents are part of the history of the Liberation War. How can we deny history?" he said.
The BNP leader said, "The speech of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is surely a part of history (of the Liberation War) and we must give him the honour and dignity he deserves."
He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists at a city hotel arranged by the party's media committee on the celebration of the golden jubilee of independence.
Earlier in the day, BNP invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join its inaugural function of the month-long programmes to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country's independence.
BNP chairperson's adviser Bijon Kanti Sarker and party publicity affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie took the invitation card of the programme to AL president's Dhanmondi office around 7pm.
Talking to UNB, Annie said AL central committee member Reazul Kabir Kawsar received the invitation card.
He said their party will also send invitation cards to other ruling party senior leaders.
The inaugural session of BNP's golden jubilee programmes will be held at Lakeshore Hotel in the city on March 1.
On Wednesday last, BNP announced a 19-day programme, including a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, for the month of March to celebrate the golden jubilee.
