Relocating Rohingyas to Bhasan Char part of ‘humanitarian diplomacy’: Prof Delwar
Relocating Rohingyas at Bhasan Char has been emphasised as part of a broader "humanitarian diplomacy", said international relations expert Prof Delwar Hossain today.
"Repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland is the main focus," he said during a seminar and dissemination of findings of a research project on "Relocation of the Rohingya Displaced People from Cox's Bazar to Bhasan char: Opportunities and Challenges" at Dhaka University.
Addressing as a guest speaker, Prof Delwar said Bangladesh needs to continue creating pressure on Myanmar regarding Rohingya repatriation.
The research report, done by the Peace and Conflict Studies department of Dhaka University and think-tank Central Foundation for International and Strategic Studies (CFISS), recommended creating small-scale income-generating opportunities such as small industries for Rohingyas at Bhasan Char.
The report also recommended ensuring the education of Rohingya children in their mother tongue on the island.
