Rajshahi AL seeks govt permission to file sedition case against BNP’s Minu
Rajshahi city Awami League today sought government approval for filing a sedition case against Mizanur Rahman Minu, adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, over his remarks on "repeating 1975 assassination".
Musabbirul Islam, law affairs secretary of city AL, applied to the District Magistrate under Section 196 (Ka) of the Criminal Procedure of Bangladesh, reports our staff correspondent in Rajshahi.
In his application, he also sought government permission for accusing the central BNP organising secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Rajshahi city BNP president Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, and secretary Shafiqul Haque Milon in the same sedition case.
The District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, Abdul Jalil, received the letter and told Musabbirul that he would send the letter to the home ministry for its approval.
In his application, Musabbirul wanted to file a case under sections 123 (Ka), 124(Ka), and 34 of the Penal Code accusing Minu of giving "anti-state remarks intending to uproot an elected government".
He claimed in the letter that Minu -- in his speech during BNP's divisional rally in Rajshahi on March 2 -- criticised Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with death, and hinted of repeating the 1975 assassination.
On March 3, the city AL protested Minu's speech and gave a 72-hour ultimatum asking Minu to apologise.
On March 7, Minu apologised by sending an email to local newsmen.
The city AL also held a rally today protesting Minu's speech.
