12th parliament session may have only 3 sittings
The 12th session of the current parliament may only have three sittings (working day) considering the deteriorating scenario of Covid-19 pandemic throughout the country and globally, sources at the Parliament Secretariat said today.
The session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am tomorrow.
President Mohammad Abdul Hamid on March 15 convened the 12th session of the 11th Parliament, exercising the power bestowed upon him as per Article 72 (1) of the Constitution.
Like other sessions of the Covid-19 period, this parliament session will run maintaining health safety guidelines. In this case, only MPs who were tested negative for Covid-19 will be allowed to attend the session.
A limited number of MPs required for fulfilling quorum in the House will be asked to attend the parliament session on a rotation basis, sources at the Parliament Secretariat said.
The parliament has already taken various steps to ensure hygiene at the Parliament Building and its premises. After Covid-19 test, only a limited number of officials and staff members essential to carry out the parliament session will be allowed to come to the office when the parliament is in session.
The media was requested to cover the session through the live telecast of the Sangsad Television instead of coming to parliament.
Senior and unwell MPs will be discouraged from attending the session, said the sources.
According to the Constitution, there is an obligation to convene the parliament session within 60 days after the end of each session of parliament.
The 11th session of the parliament was prorogued on February 2.
