PM to open 'World Trade Centre' in Ctg today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina travels to Chittagong today on a daylong tour to open the World Trade Centre in the port city and inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of five development projects.

After reaching Chittagong Cantonment by a helicopter in the morning, the PM will join the 9th reunion of East Bengal Regiment Centre at the cantonment.

After Johr prayers, she will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of five development projects.

Hasina will open the tallest mural of Bangabandhu, installed in the city's Quaish area. The Chittagong Development Authority built two murals at both ends of the Oxygen-Quaish road (now renamed as Bangabandhu Avenue) at a cost of about Tk 1.20 crore.

The premier will inaugurate Kadamtoli Flyover, 5.5-km-long Bangabandhu Avenue, construction of link road from Dhaka Trunk Road to Baizid Bostami Road, and construction of Chittagong city Outer Ring Road.

She will also lay the foundation stone of the elevated expressway from the city's Lalkhan Bazar area to Shah Amanat International Airport. The project cost has been estimated at Tk 3,000 crore.

The PM will then go to Agrabad area to open the World Trade Centre and attend the centenary celebration of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

The CCCI built the 21-storey trade centre on 75 kathas of land at a cost of Tk 200 crore. The construction work of the project began in May 2006.

Built using state-of-the-art technologies, the centre will house a five star hotel, two swimming pools, a rooftop helipad, three-storey basement with parking lots for 400 vehicles, a convention centre and a modern IT centre.

The CCCI has already obtained membership of the New York-based World Trade Centre.
