GM Quader demands judicial inquiry into journalist Rozina’s harassment
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today demanded formation of a judicial inquiry committee to investigate the harassment of senior journalist Rozina Islam.
Demanding immediate release and withdrawal of the case filed against Rozina, the JP chief said the Official Secrets Act is an expired black law. He made the comments while speaking at a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club today.
In an independent and democratic state, such a law is against the public interest, he said.
JP South City unit organised the programme in protest of the arrest of Rozina Islam and Israeli aggression over the people of Palestine.
"Legal action should be taken against those who harassed Rozina. An investigative reporter will collect information through different means and there is nothing wrong in it. The freedom of media workers must be ensured to ensure free flow of information, added Quader.
The brutality against Rozina is an unforgivable crime. Due to the reports by investigative reporters, we know the news of looting in different departments, he added.
"Rozina had collected information for the sake of her profession. She is fulfilling her responsibility to inform the nation and in the interest of the country. Information collection can never be stolen, Quader," also the deputy leader of the opposition in Parliament, said.
"Due to the lack of democracy in the country, people cannot speak. Media workers are not able to reveal the truth; there is no freedom of the media, "JP Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu while speaking at the programme.
An extreme form of torture is coming down against media workers who are coming forward to reveal the truth. The attack on Rozina Islam cannot be accepted in a civilised society, he said.
