National budget for FY22 to be placed tomorrow
Marginalised people will get priority in the proposed national budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year, which will be placed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal before the parliament tomorrow.
Kamal will unveil the budget at the House at 3 pm, the finance ministry said in a press release today.
This is the third budget in the third consecutive term of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the second budget since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
"This year's budget, titled "Bangladesh on a Strong Future with a Priority in Life and Livelihood", is a combination of the government's past achievements and the current situation," the ministry said.
Alongside giving the most importance on the health sector, implementation of incentive projects announced by the prime minister, agricultural sector, food production and management are being given more importance in tackling the Covid-19, it said.
The government will take various food-friendly programmes throughout the financial year and the scope of social security programmes will be increased, it added.
To make the budget more participatory, any person or organisation can read and download all the information and important documents of the budget from the website of the finance ministry.
A post-budget press conference will be held at 3pm on Friday. Anyone can join the press conference on the scheduled date and time through Zoom, according to the ministry.
On June 11 last year, Kamal placed Tk 568,000 crore national budget for 2020-21 fiscal year with an ambitious target of 8.2 per cent growth in gross domestic product amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
