2 more die of diarrhoea in Bandarban, 200 affected
A six-year-old child and a middle-aged woman of Mro community died of diarrhoea hitting the death toll to eight in remote Kurukpata area of Bandarban's Alikadam upazila.
The deceased were identified as Pyring Mro, 6, and Songfu Mro, 40, of Mangrum Para, said Kratpung Mro, chairman of Kurukpata union parishad.
They died on Monday, said the chairman.
"In the span of five days, eight people, including a child and a woman have died of diarrhoea and more than 200 have been affected in some remote areas of Kurukpata union", the chairman said.
The deceased were from remote Mangrum Para, Menu Para and Sonabi Para areas of Kurukpata union, the chairman added.
Dr Aung Swi Prue Marma, civil surgeon of Bandarban, said, "Three of our medical teams are working in Kurukpata union to provide medical services to the patients."
"We have information that six people died of diarrhoea in different remote paras of Kurukpata union", said the civil surgeon.
Lt Colonel Manjurul Hasan, Alikadom Zone Commander of the Bangladesh Army, said "A medical team went to the remote areas by helicopter on Monday to provide treatment to diarrhoea affected people."
