Anti-terrorism Unit of Police claimed to have arrested a member of the banned militant group Ansar al Islam from Naogaon last night.

The arrestee was identified as Sarwar Hossain alias Alif, 25, hailing from Atrai upazila in the district.

He had been propagating extremism online and trying to recruit new operatives for the group, said Aslam Khan, superintendent (Media and Awareness) of ATU.

A case was filed against him under Anti-Terrorism Act with Naogaon Sadar Police Station in this regard, he said.
