Man, who was in jail for 23 years, arrested again for shooting land owner
He was released after serving 22 years in jail in a murder case.
Coming out of jail in 2017, Rafiqul Islam alias Ratan, again got involved in crimes, detectives said.
In 2019, he was arrested again in an arms case but came out of jail after one year.
Yet, this brought no change in the 45-year-old man. He and some accomplices, hired by a land owner, went to a disputed land in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area on June 4 and fired three bullets at another land owner Mamun, said AKM Hafiz Akhtar, additional commissioner of (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
After investigating the case filed with Hazaribagh Police station, a DB team arrested Rafiqul and his accomplice Md Arman from Savar area yesterday. The officials, based on their information, later recovered two firearms and two bullets from a house in Hazaribagh area, Hafiz told a press briefing at DMP media centre.
"The duo admitted that they took part in the attack," he said.
According to detectives, there is dispute between two locals -- Abdul Hashem and Mamun -- over a land in Shikaritola area.
Hashem hired Rafiq and his men and tried to erect a boundary wall on the land on that day. As Mamun's family protested, the criminals including Rafiq fired bullets at Mamun, they said.
Police are trying to arrest other accused.
