Is Bangladesh facing an oxygen crisis?
Today (July 3, 2021), the last day of the budget session in parliament, Health Minister Zahid Maleque faced severe criticism -- citing his failure in Covid-19 management.
The criticism came after 7 Covid-19 patients died in Satkhira within just one hour as there was shortage of adequate oxygen supply in the hospital. Moreover, claimed another member of the parliament, 24 people died in two days in Bogura for similar reasons. Another MP demanded the health minister's resignation.
Is Bangladesh actually facing a crisis for oxygen? Can the health sector tackle the increasing demand? What will happen if the situation deteriorates?
In Straight from Star Newsroom, Debjani Shyama tries to find answers with The Daily Star's health reporter Moudud Ahmmed Sujan.
