Woman dies, husband alleges negligence of hospital in Ctg
"Negligence" of the hospital authorities led to the death of a new mother at National Hospital in Chattogram on June 30, alleged the deceased's husband yesterday.
Rahat Rahman Lima and Manik Hossain, residents of Rangamit's Kaptai area, became parents of a baby girl on June 27 at Chattogram National Hospital.
The caesarian operation was conducted by Professor Kamrun Nessa Runa, a gynecologist of the hospital, said Lima's husband Manik.
Lima was discharged from the hospital on June 29 and returned to their rented house in Chattogram city, Manik said.
"But she started coughing blood the following day and we tried to contact Dr Runa," Manik said, adding that the physician suggested some medicine.
Manik rushed to the hospital at around 3:00am on Thursday night as his wife's condition deteriorated but the hospital authority said they couldn't do anything at that time and suggested to bring her in the morning.
"I took my wife to the hospital at around 10:00am but the hospital authority received her as a suspected coronavirus patient," he said, adding that he was told by the hospital authority that they tried to contact Dr Runa to know the details of his wife but failed.
The hospital authority informed Manik at noon that his wife was in life support and declared her dead in the evening.
He alleged that his wife died due to the "negligence" of doctor and staffers of the hospital.
Contacted, Dr Runa said, "I have conducted her operation and she had no issues at the time."
Expressing sorrow over the death, the physician said, "The hospital authority tried to contact me regarding the case but I was in a virtual meeting at that time".
Terming the death "unfortunate", Dr Mohammad Yousuf, managing director of the hospital, said they were investigating whether there was any negligence regarding the death.
The deceased's family members demanded proper investigation over the death.
