Wakilur's “Censored Image” opens
A solo art project by senior artist-curator Wakilur Rahman, titled “Censored Image” opened on Wednesday at the capital's Kalakendra. The exhibition is a part of an ongoing art project Wakilur Rahman developed and has exhibited on social media platform Facebook since 2015. Forty four selected artworks, all digitally manipulated photos, will be on display at Kalakendra till February 23.
In this exhibition, the artist looks at the concept of censorship from various perspectives. Societal norms that dictate censorship, its subjectivity, sensitivity, medium and methods -- Wakilur Rahman brings it all out in his layered, thought-provoking pieces.
Wakilur Rahman completed his BFA from Dhaka Art College (now Faculty of Fine Arts, DU) in 1981 and did his MFA from China. He has been s a freelance artist since 1985 and has numerous solo and group exhibits to his credit, alongside participation in art fairs around the world.
