Fresh long march towards Rampal on March 10-15
The National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources and Power and Ports today announced a fresh long march towards the 1,320 MW coal-fired Rampal Power Plant site in Bagerhat on March 10-15 to press home their 7-point demand, including cancellation of the project.
Committee member secretary of Prof Anu Mohammad made the announcement at a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital.
They will resist through forging a national unity and national awakening any move to destroy the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, by implementing the power plant, he said.
He said they will observe protest rally in Dhaka and Narayanganj on February 15 and across the country on February 22 in a bid to make the programme a success.
They will hold view exchange meetings with people from all professions from February 22 to March 5 to muster support in favour of the long march, said Anu Mohammad.
Earlier, the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources and Power and Ports staged long marches towards the power plant site on the same demand.
