Sunil Dev denies claiming Old Trafford India-England Test fixed

Former Delhi and District Cricket Association secretary Sunil Dev has denied claiming that the fourth Test match between India and England in Manchester in 2014 was fixed.

A Hindi daily Sun Star earlier reported in a sting video where Dev said that the Test match played at Old Trafford was fixed.

"It is all rubbish. I am planning to sue this Hindi daily and will seek legal recourse against anyone else who makes such malicious claims," Dev told The Times of India.

The video showed Dev, who was the manager of the Indian team on that tour, expressing surprise at captain MS Dhoni's decision of batting first in overcast conditions in the match.

"Given the conditions of the pitch due to rain, we had decided to bowl first in a team meeting but I was surprised that Dhoni opted to bat first," the Hindi daily claimed that Dev had said in the video which was shown to mediapersons yesterday.

According to the paper, Dev claimed that he had brought the matter to BCCI’s notice and had also written to N Srinivasan, the board president at that time.

However, Justice Mukul Mudgal, who led the IPL spot-fixing probe panel, said he had no knowledge of this and rejected the claims.

In the match, India were all out scoring 152 in the first innings after electing to bat first. England replied with 367 to take a lead of 215 runs. India lost the match by an innings and 54 runs.
