Howard University names College of Fine Arts after Chadwick Boseman

One year after his death, Chadwick Boseman has received another prestigious tribute: a college named in his honour. Howard University, which is the late actor's alma mater, announced that one of the school's departments will now be named the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

In a video posted to Instagram, Howard University shared the momentous news, along with visuals of the letters being installed on one of the buildings on campus.

"Yesterday, the letters were installed over the now official Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts," the official Howard University Instagram account shared in a caption. "An icon in his own right who has left an immeasurable legacy for the next generation. Thank you Mr. Boseman."

As per reports, this tribute was first shared by the school in May. At the time, Chadwick's wife, Simone Ledward, spoke of the honour in a statement, remarking on her late husband's educational experience during his time at Howard.

Chadwick graduated from Howard University in 2000 after completing his BFA in directing. In 2018, he was welcomed back to the university as the commencement speaker, where he delivered a powerful message complete with a Black Panther "Wakanda Forever" solute.

"Purpose is an essential element of you," he told the class of 2018, emphasising that the graduates should focus on their deeper goals in life, not just their job or daily work. "It is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history."

August 28, 2021, marked the one-year anniversary of Boseman's passing. He died after a battle with colon cancer. In addition to the powerful tribute from Howard University, he was remembered throughout the world by fans, friends, and fellow costars, ensuring that his legacy will live on for years to come.
