30 Bangladeshis rescued from the Mediterranean return from Tunisia
Thirty Bangladeshis, who were rescued from the Mediterranean while trying to reach Italy illegally, returned home from Tunisia today.
A Turkish Airlines flight carrying the Bangladeshis landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:05pm.
Fakhrul Alam, assistant director of the Expatriates' Welfare Desk at the airport, confirmed the arrival of the Bangladeshis.
Most of the returnees are young, he said.
Brac Migration Programme, in a media release, said it provided immediate support such as food and water to the returnees with the help of the expatriates' welfare desk.
Quoting some of the returnees, Brac Migration Programme Head Shariful Hasan said they went to Dubai on a visit visa at the beginning of this year. Later, they reached Tunisia via Libya.
The returnees were rescued from the Mediterranean while trying to reach Italy, Shariful said.
