Helal Hafiz's world of romance and revolution
"Ekhon joubon jar, juddhe jabar tar shreshtho shomoy"
This verse from an unknown student of Dhaka University swept through Bengal, in slogans, in posters, and on banners during the upheaval in 1969 against Pakistani oppression.
From that point in time, a new chapter commenced in Bengali literary history, a chapter of surprising yet not unnatural amalgamation of romance, revolution and poetry -- Helal Hafiz Nishiddho Sompadokio and 55 other poems created the highest selling anthology of poetry in Bangladesh - Je Jole Agun Jole published in 1986.
Since then, this celebration of life, love and yearning for freedom has become one of the truest representations of the complex reality of young people in Bengal.
This larger-than-life poet recently conversed with Star Multimedia, and expressed his thoughts on death, love, revolution, creation, grief, desires and poetry.
With the celebration of the 73rd birthday of Helal Hafiz, Star Multimedia is exhilarated to inaugurate a new show Star Priyo Boi er Mukhomukhi.
