Bangladeshi couple arrested in India’s Assam for illegal entry
A Bangladeshi couple was arrested on Tuesday by police in the northeastern Indian state of Assam for illegally entering the country.
The couple, identified as Md Naim Uddin (24) and Sabnur Ansari (19) are residents of Bangladesh's Kishoreganj district, said Indian Karimganj district Superintendent of Police Padmanabh Baruah said, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
They were travelling by bus from Agartala when police apprehended them at a routine check post. Police said the couple did not have any identification papers with them.
During their initial questioning at Bazarichara Police Station, the couple told Indian police that they crossed into Tripura a few days ago and were on their way to Guwahati for the final leg of their journey to West Bengal's Murshidabad where they hoped to find jobs or start a small business.
"They said they got married recently and were looking for better opportunities. They decided to move to India so that they both get themselves jobs, or start some business," Baruah said.
The couple were booked under the Foreigners Act, said the police official.
At least 10 Bangladeshi nationals who illegally entered India were intercepted by the Assam police over the last month.
