Arrest warrant against Mufti Izharul
A Chittagong court today issued arrest warrant against Hefajat-e Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury in a case filed for not submitting his wealth statement before the anti-graft body.
Judge SM Mujibur Rahman of the Court of Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge passed the order after accepting the charges brought against Izharul by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC public prosecutor Mahmudul Haque Mahmud.
After his investigation into the case, ACC Deputy Assistant Director HM Akhtaruzzaman submitted the charge sheet against him before another court on April 20, the ACC lawyer said.
On September 17 last year, Sirajul Haque, divisional deputy assistant director of ACC-1, filed the case against Izharul, also president of Nezame Islam Party, with Khulshi Police Station under the ACC act for not replying to the graft watchdog's notices.
The commission served notices on Izharul several times seeking his wealth report after allegations against him of amassing wealth had surfaced.
Izharul went into absconding after three people were killed in an explosion at his Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in Lalkhan Bazar of Chittagong On October 7 last year.
Three cases were filed over the explosion accusing Izharul and his son Harun bin Izhar.
