This time Sylhet surprise with captaincy change just before toss
The removal of Mehedi Hasan Miraz as captain of BPL franchise Chattogram Challengers and the following drama that ensued, had been at the centre of a media storm only recently. This time it was Sylhet Sunrisers who surprised with a captaincy change after the team had come in to the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium to play today's evening match against Khulna Tigers.
The team sheets provided to the media had named Mosaddek Hossain as captain but it was a surprise when Ravi Bopara came at the toss instead of Mosaddek.
Sylhet's team manager Kazi Al Mashuk Bari was contacted by The Daily Star and he informed that they had made a mistake in the team sheet which was signed by him along with Bopara.
"Even a few days ago, Mosaddek told us that he does not want to captain anymore. He wanted to relieve some pressure and focus on his own game for the rest of the tournament. Although he informed us before, we were not able to find a replacement. Even yesterday, Bijoy [Anamul Haque] was approached to take over, we also talked to [Mohammad] Mithun but they did not want that responsibility. Mosaddek talked to the coach after arriving at the field today and following discussion we talked to Bijoy and Mithun again, but they rejected the request to take over. Then we approached Bopara and he will be the captain from now," the manager told The Daily Star today.
Regarding the wrong attribution of captaincy on the team sheet, the manager said that he had made a mistake but had asked for forgiveness in a letter to match referee Debabrata Paul. "It was my mistake," Kazi said.
"Due to the hassle created by time shortage, I forgot to put in Bopara's name [as captain]. I have already accepted my mistake and wrote a letter to the match referee, asking for forgiveness," Kazi informed.
