Narine smashes 13-ball fifty, fastest in BPL
Comilla Victorians opener Sunil Narine smashed the fastest fifty in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in their ongoing Qualifier 2 against Chattogram Challengers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Hitting a total of four fours and six maximums, Narine reached fifty off just 13 balls, which is also the second-fastest in T20s.
Ahmed Shehzad of Pakistan previously held the record for the fastest fifty in BPL, reaching the landmark off just 16 deliveries against Duranto Rajshahi while playing for Barishal Burners in the inaugural edition in 2012.
Today, the West Indies left-hander reached 52 with a heave over midwicket off a Mrittunjoy Chowdhury delivery in the final over of the Powerplay.
The fastest fifty was smashed by Yuvraj Singh off just 12 balls against England during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Windies' Chris Gayle and Afghanistan batter Hazratullah Zazai also hit fifties off 12 deliveries in the format.
England's Marcus Trescothick also hit a 13-ball fifty for Somerset against Hampshire in a T20 game in 2010.
