Tributes paid to language martyrs at Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today paid tributes to the 1952 language martyrs through probhat feri and placing wreaths at a Shaheed Minar at the chancery.

The national flag was flown at half-mast and a special prayer was held seeking divine blessings for the martyrs. A one-minute silence was held in the memory of the martyrs, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

A probhat feri was taken out amidst singing of "Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushe February" at the chancery premises.

Visiting State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and the High Commissioner Md Imran placed wreaths at the Shahid Minar at the mission's premises. Shahriar and Imran also placed flowers on the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In his remarks, Shahriar recalled the supreme sacrifices made by the language heroes of 1952 and said the recognition of International Mother Language is the result of the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu.

Md Imran praised the historic role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish Bangla as a state language.

The messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on the occasion were read out.

A cultural programme featuring artists from different countries was held in the evening and a documentary was screened on the occasion.
