Ministry mandates ‘pockets’ in all female clothes from April 1
On International Women's Day 2022, in a landmark initiative to ensure equality, the Ministry of Women and Kids' Affairs (MOWKA) mandated pockets to be sewn in all female dresses from April 1.
"All tailors have been advised to include large-sized pockets on the sides of all clothing. RMG factories, their middlemen, and even Walmart have been notified of this decision. We want to change things and make it better for women worldwide," said the Assistant to the Regional Manager of MOWKA while speaking to journalists in an event organised for IWD 2022.
"It's 2022, and women still have to carry their wallets, phones, papers, and North-end coffee mugs all in the same hand, because the other hand is busy stopping fast cars from running them over while they are crossing the road! We can't stop fast cars, that's the roads and transports division's job, but we can sew in the pockets and make it easy," he also added.
The Assistant to the Regional Manager also said, "If we want to #breakthebias, then we must start here: Pockets have no gender, pockets belong to everyone!"
