Bangladesh's Tour of South Africa 2022

Shakib back in ranks has Domingo relieved

"He balances our team," Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo was full of praise for Shakib Al Hasan after the team's practice session at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg today.

The star all-rounder underwent fitness training with some running exercises without much rest and the Tigers' head coach expressed his contentment on having the talisman back in the side ahead of the three-match ODI series against hosts South Africa, slated to begin on March 18.

"It's always difficult when he [Shakib] is not there because you're not sure whether to pick an extra bowler or an extra batsman. It's great to have players of that calibre and experience," Domingo said at a press conference following day's training.

The Tigers are yet to win a game in South African soil and Domingo will want Shakib to be at his best if they want to turn things around, especially in the white-ball format. However, given the latest string of events and the consequent uncertainty surrounding Shakib's involvement in South Africa, it presents a tougher challenge for the left-hander and his team against a strong and in-form Proteas side.

Domingo apparently seems content to focus on the positives for now.

"He's [Shakib's] been here before. His energy, attitude and work ethic has been fantastic, so good to have him," said Domingo.
