Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had the vision to eliminate economic disparity and applied his accounting knowledge for the welfare of people in the country.

The participants of a webinar on "the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the audit and accountancy profession" made the comments on Thursday.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) organised the event to mark the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu, said a press release.

Mentioning that production was at the core of Bangabandhu's economic philosophy, they said due to the strong move of Bangabandhu, all obstacles were removed and production in the industrial sector increased.

State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam said that Bangabandhu took robust initiatives to reform the war-torn country through establishing a constitutional and legal frame of many organisations and institutions including ICAB. 

He said Bangabandhu took first-five-year plan to rebuild the economy. Besides, Bangabandhu took a strong move to eliminate all obstacles to increase industrial production, Alam said. "Production was at the core of Bangabandhu's economic philosophy."

Highlighting the steps taken for policy reformation after the independence of the country, ICAB President Md Shahadat Hossain said an accountant projected the financial condition of the organisation and evaluates the financial performance of the organisation, but Bangabandhu applied his accounting knowledge to eliminate discrepancies between rich and poor.

Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry, said Bangabandhu gave importance to accounting in his 6-point demands in 1966 which was chartered of the country's freedom, the emancipation of poverty and disparity.
