BCL men snatches food meant for students in RU during Independence Day celebrations
Chhatra League leaders and activists from the Rajshahi University (RU) unit have been accused of snatching food -- allotted for residential students at Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall on the occasion of Independence and National Day celebrations.
According to the provost of the hall, Prof Dr Ekramul Islam, the incident occurred this afternoon under the leadership of Chirantan Chanda, president of the RU BCL unit of the Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall, and Momin Islam, general secretary, reports our RU correspondent.
The authorities allotted special meals for the residential students of 17 halls of the university. For this every student had to collect a token for Tk 30.
Approximately 20-22 BCL activists, led by Chirantan and Momin, forcibly snatched 100-120 packets of food while residential students were waiting outside for food, according to eyewitness students. As a result, at least 100 of the hall's students were left hungry.
In this regard, Chirantan said, "We didn't take any extra packets."
Meanwhile, RU BCL president Golam Kibria said, "As far as I know, BCL leaders and workers did not take any extra food. However, if any such incident occurred, then action will be taken against them subject to finding suitable evidence."
However, Dr Ekramul Islam said, "When the distribution of food started in the hall, BCL leaders and activists came and demanded 200 packets of food."
They didn't have any token, but continued to demand extra food. At one point about 20-22 of them came and took away many packets of food without tokens.
