Activists of 2 BCL units clash on CU campus over ‘argument in messenger’
Two residential hall units of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Comilla University clashed yesterday on the campus over an "argument in messenger group."
The fight broke out between BCL activists of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Hall around 7pm, reports our local correspondent quoting sources.
Kawser Hossain Apon, a student of archeology department's batch 14 had an argument with one of his female classmates in a messenger group for their class, according to sources.
The classmate told her husband, who is a student of accounting and information systems department and a BCL activist of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Hall, about the argument. The husband then told his fellow BCL activists of his hall, sources said.
Witnesses said that, Robin Hossain and Alvi Bhuiyan, both BCL activists of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Hall, slapped Kawser Hossain Apon after learning about the argument.
Apon then informed the matter to the BCL activists of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall who went to inquire the reason behind such act, the student said.
Soon clashes ensued between the BCL activists of the two halls. The clashes were brought under control after around one and half hour.
"I still don't know the real reason behind the clashes. When the tension subsides, we will sit down and discuss," said Elias Hossain Sabuj, president of the university unit of BCL.
"If those who are in charge of the hall units cannot keep control, there committees will be dissolved," he added.
University Proctor Kazi Omar Siddiqui said that the administration is aware of the incident.
"Both sides have been instructed to calm down. Tomorrow (today) the proctorial body will discuss actions," he added.
