Kiwis trample Englishmen
MATCH 9: NEW ZEALAND VS ENGLAND |
England 123 (33.2 Overs) |
New Zealand 125/2 (12.2 Overs) New Zealand won the match by 8 wickets |
New Zealand trampled England with Tim Southee's seven-wicket haul and Brendan McCullum's fiery batting in the ninth match of the World Cup 2015 at Wellington today.
The Kiwis were all over England throughout the game, chasing down this tournament's lowest total 123 inside the 15 overs and winning the match by eight wickets.
Winning the toss and batting first, English batsmen were apparently too feeble to face swing bowling and ended up in the lowest total of this World Cup as of yet.
Tim Southee scathed England the most, taking seven wickets, with his swing bowling and ended up with the best bowling figures for any New Zealand bowler.
Trent Boult, Daniel Vettori and Adam Milne chipped in to share three wickets each.
For England, with only four batsmen getting past double figures, it seemed only Joe Root could bat. He was the highest scorer with 46, others were 20 and below.
Coming on to bat, Brendon McCullum was swinging his bat at everything seemingly set to finish the game inside 15 overs. He hit the fastest 50 in World Cup in only 19 balls.
At the end, New Zealand chased down the total at the 13th over losing two wickets. Chris Woakes claimed the two wickets for England.
Hosts New Zealand are already up four points in the Pool A with previous wins over Sri Lanka and Scotland. With today's win they are standing with six points in the group stage.
