Nayeem denies Mathews a double-ton, bags six-fer
Sri Lanka batter Angelo Mathews fell one run short of his Test career's second double-century as his brilliant nine-and-half hour long anchoring innings ended at 199, becoming the 12th batter in history to get out on the number.
The visitors ended their first innings at 397 all out on the third session of day two of the Chattogram Test after batting for 153 overs .
With Mathews' dismissal, rookie off-spiner Nayeem Hasan grabbed a six-wicket haul, his career's third fifer, while giving away 105 runs from his 30 overs.
Mathews, who also became the second batter to depart for 199 against Bangladesh after Dean Elgar in 2017 in Pochefstroom, brought his downfall by trying to slog Nayeem and was caught at square-leg by Shakib Al Hasan, who picked three wickets in the innings.
Bangladesh earlier had missed the opportunity to dismiss Asitha Fernando in the first over after Tea. A run-out opportunity went begging as Shakib failed to gather the ball at the non-striker's end. Nayeem, however, removed the batter later after he frustrated the Tigers by facing 26 balls to score only a single run.
