Tigers end Day 2 unscathed
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy made sure that the Tigers end the second day of their first Test against Sri Lanka on a positive note as the duo remained unbeaten in their first innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.
After bundling out Sri Lanka for 397 in their first innings, Bangladesh managed to reach 76 for no loss at stumps, still trailing by 321 runs.
Both the batters played positively while the Sri Lankan bowlers found it hard to get any purchase from a flat Chattogram wicket. Tamim remained unbeaten on 39 while Joy was not out on 31 with both the players dispatching five boundaries each.
Earlier, thanks to a six-wicket haul by off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, Bangladesh were able to restrict the visitors under a 400-run total. Nayeem's six for 105 in 30 overs, his career-best figures in an innings in Tests, included the crucial scalp of Angelo Mathews, who agonisingly fell on 199, only the 12th batter to be dismissed for the score in Tests.
