With the inauguration of the Padma Bridge only hours away, the sporting bodies of Bangladesh are also set to be a part of history and will celebrate the much-awaited event.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the Padma Bridge at the Mawa end on Saturday morning.

And simultaneously, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will celebrate the opening ceremony remotely from the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur tomorrow. The BCB president Nazmul Hassan will be present at the home of cricket in Mirpur to take part in the celebrations.

Earlier, the ongoing two-match Test series between Bangladesh and hosts West Indies was named as 'Padma Bridge Dream Fulfilled Friendship Test Series' to celebrate the biggest bridge of the country.

Also the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) announced that it will celebrate the inauguration remotely through various programmes such as cake-cutting followed by lunch, in presence of its president Kazi Salahuddin.

The construction of the Padma Bridge began on November 26, 2014 and was completed on June 22 this year. The 6.15-kilometre bridge, which will connect the southwest region to the rest of Bangladesh, is expected to spur economic growth in the country for increased connectivity and economic activities.
