Tamim first Bangladeshi to hit 100 sixes in ODIs

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi to smash 100 sixes in ODIs during the first ODI of their three-match series against West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana today.

The southpaw was one short of 100 sixes in ODIs before the start of the series. Tamim, playing his 226th ODI, struck his 100th six when he chipped an Anderson Phillip delivery over the fine leg boundary for a maximum during the Tigers' chase of a 150-run target set by the West Indies. 

The left-hander, however, departed in the very next over to a run-out after a rapid 25-ball 33.

Tamim is still way down in the august list of most sixes by a player in ODIs. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi tops the chart with 351 maximums in 398 matches. West Indies' Chris Gayle is second with 331 sixes in 301 ODIs.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the other Bangladeshi who is close to Tamim in terms of number of sixes hit in ODIs. The wicketkeeper-batter, who played a total of 233 ODIs so far, struck 85 sixes in the format.
