Kangana threatens to sue Filmfare Awards
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been a controversial figure in the industry, particularly for her bold reactions to anything or anyone that is against her. Whether it be alleging that Karan Johar pushed 'nepotism in Bollywood', or making controversial statements about trending issues, it seems the actress feels compelled to constantly push herself into the limelight.
Recently, the actress of "Queen" fame reportedly threatened a leading magazine in India, saying she will take legal actions against them for persistently nominating and inviting the actress for her film "Thalaivii".
Kangana shared her statement via an Instagram Story. "I've banned unethical, corrupt and totally unfair practices like @filmfare since 2014, but since I have been getting many calls from them for attending their award function this year as they want to give me award for Thalaivii... I am shocked to know that they are still nominating me. It is beneath my dignity, work ethics and value system to encourage such corrupt practices in anyway, that is why I have decided to sue @filmfare ... thanks," reads the post.
Filmfare Awards nominated Kangana in the Best Actress category this year for "Thalaivii", along with Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon, Parineeti Chopra, Taapsee Pannu, and Vidya Balan.
Earlier the actress had called out the Oscars and Emmys when they did not pay tribute to Lata Mangeshkar in their 'In Memoriam' segment.
Regarding the actress' threats, Filmfare published an official response through their verified social media accounts. The post reads, "It pains us at Filmfare, today, to be subjected to unwarranted malicious remarks by Ms Kangana Ranaut. For six decades, Filmfare Awards, and Filmfare, at large, has been a platform that celebrates and honours talent in the Film industry impartially and with utmost transparency. It is our strong ethic that has helped us in gaining the trust of our audiences and the film industry. As is customary during the awards, Filmfare's Executive Editor informed Ms. Ranaut about her nomination in the Best Actor in a Leading Role, Female category and asked for her address to send across the invitation."
Since then, Filmfare have withdrawn the nomination for Kangana, stating that they reserve all rights to pursue any legal action against any malicious and defamatory statements which hampers their reputation and goodwill.
