Local AL activist “shot dead by rivals” over land dispute in Pabna

An activist of local Awami League was shot dead allegedly by his rivals over land dispute in Sadar upazila of Pabna this (September 9, 2022) afternoon.

The deceased, Saidur Rahman Malitha (45), was a member of Pabna municipality unit Awami League, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Sadar upazila AL Organising Secretary Russel Ali Biswash Masud.

Russel said Saidur had a conflict with Sadar upazila AL vice-president Alauddin centering a piece of land. 

The incident took place at Charbangabari village around 1:45pm, Amirul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, confirmed to our correspondent.

Talking to our Pabna correspondent, Malitha's wife Dilruba Jahan, claimed "There was a dispute over land between my husband and one Alauddin, who is the former chairman of Hemayetpur Union Parishad. Today, his (Alauddin) followers called my husband and killed him in a planned manner."

OC Amirul further said "We came to know primarily that supporters of Alauddin shot Saidur to death over the land dispute. We are looking into the matter."

Attackers opened fire targeting Saidur when he came to the embankment area after Juma prayers, the OC said. On information from locals, police rushed the spot and recovered the body, police added.
