‘O Sajna’: Neha Kakkar’s rendition induces mixed reactions
Yesterday, the teaser for Neha Kakkar's latest song, "O Sajna", was released. The song premiered in its entirety earlier today (September 19). "O Sajna" is a rendition of the song "Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" by Falguni Pathak from 1999.
"O Sajna", which was released under the banner of T-Series, stars Neha Kakkar, Priyank Sharma and Dhanashree Verma in the music video. Tanishk Bagchi produced the music for the song, while Jaani wrote the lyrics. The original music composer and lyricist was Lalit Sen.
While the teaser received mixed reactions from netizen, some have credited Neha Kakkar for promoting positive vibes and channelling that energy into the song.
However, many have opposed Neha Kakkar's attempt altogether, for they had preferred the original song. "Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" was the title track of Falguni Pathak's album of the same name. The song itself was an instant hit and was appreciated by crowds and critics alike. The innocent excitement of lovers was portrayed so well in "Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" that millions worldwide were able to feel a connection with the song.
"Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" had also received the International Viewer's Choice Award for MTV India and was a cult favourite for generations. Hence, upon the release of the teaser for "O Sajna"—along with the eventual release of the entire song—many have voiced their opinions and concerns stating that "O Sajna" has ruined a masterpiece.
It's still too early to say whether Neha Kakkar's attempt at adding her own touch to a cult classic will be a success or not, but one thing that is certain is just how important "Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" was for many people.
