Salman Shah, one of the most iconic actors of Bangladeshi cinema, would have turned 52 today. He was born on September 19, 1971 in Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet. Before taking on the name Salman Shah, he went by Shahriar Chowdhury Emon.

Remembering the actor on his birthday, The Daily Star spoke with Sohanur Rahman Sohan, the director of Salman Shah's first film, "Keyamat Theke Keyamat".

"Salman Shah is a brand that will never be forgotten. There are very few actors of his calibre nowadays. His absence has left a dent in our film industry, and I feel it every day. Two decades have passed since his death, but he has remained as popular as ever. Newer generations of fans have also come to love and adore him," said Sohanur Rahman.

In the span of only four years, Salman Shah worked in a total of 27 films. Almost all these films are still popular today. His debut film, "Keyamat Theke Keyamat", which was released in 1993, starred him opposite Moushumi. After that, he worked with Moushumi in the films "Ontore Ontore", "Denmohor" and "Sneho".

In 1994, Salman Shah and Shabnoor paired together for the first time on the film, "Tumi Amar" directed by Zahirul Haque. After that, he worked in "Sujan Sokhi", "Bikkhov", "Shopner Thikana", and many more.
