Not possible to refine Russian crude oil at Eastern Refinery: Technical committee

The technical committee of the Eastern Refinery (ERL) has said that it is not possible to refine Russian crude oil at the Eastern Refinery.

The technical committee mentioned this in a report after testing samples of Russian crude oil.

The ERL authorities submitted the test report to Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation around 10:00am today (September 20, 2022). The BPC's General Manager (Commerce) Qudrat-e-Elahi received the report on behalf of the chairman.

In the 20-page report, members of ERL's technical committee said that it is not possible to refine Russian crude oil in the present structure of the Eastern Refinery. BPC Chairman ABM Azad confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

In the report, the committee members gave some other opinions, which are highly technical, the chairman said.

He added, "After reviewing the details of the report, we will officially inform the Russian company in the next two or three days."
