No question of reforming Rab, says new DG
Newly appointed Director General of Rapid Action Battalion M Khurshid Hossain today said the elite force does not need a reform.
"We are not doing anything for which we need to reform Rab. We are doing our job as per the law and rules. So, there is no question of reforming Rab," he said replying to a query.
The Rab DG came up with the remark, two days after US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas called for a reform of the force.
Rab DG Khurshid Hossain was speaking after placing floral wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait in Dhanmondi 32 today, a day after taking charges of the force.
On September 29, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas had said sanctions imposed on Rab and seven of its current and former officials for alleged human rights violations will remain in place until accountability is ensured and reforms are made.
Replying to another query, the Rab DG said "I do not think it [sanction] is a big challenge for the government and us. We will continue doing our jobs."
"It is right that those who work may make mistakes but [you] have to see whether that is done for personal interest or for the interest of the countrymen," Khurshid said.
"They imposed a sanction which is being dealt officially. We have already answered what they wanted to know from us. After that, they cannot get scope of raising new questions," he added.
