Football fiesta: Stars galore in ‘Damal’ promotional match
It was filled to the brim with celebrities at the capital's Bashundhara Kings field yesterday. With all the makings of a blockbuster football match, with "Team Durjoy" and "Team Munna" battled each other in red and green attires.
The match officially started with Bidya Sinha Mim's kick-off, and from there, Shariful Razz, Siam Ahmed, Shouvik Ahmed, Shoumik Ahmed, Sajal, FS Nayeem, Solaiman Shukhon, Ayman Sadiq and many others played their heart out in the spirit of friendship and respect for the Shadhin Bangla football team, the legendary icons on whom "Damal" is based on.
Throughout evenly matched contest, director Raihan Rafi watched from the sidelines, seeing the result of his dedication fold into one of the most intriguing promotions of a Bangladeshi film in recent times. Professional footballers were also added to the mix, and it was admittedly fun to watch the celebrities try to keep up with Jamal Bhuiyan and Anisur Rahman Zico. Zico, despite being a goalkeeper, played in an attacking stance.
Even though team Munna, the ones adorned in green and white, dominated the match through their possession and quick offence, red-and-black team Durjoy drew first blood – despite the opposition claiming that the goal was clearly off-side.
However, not too much protest was seen from the green team, as they took the setback sportingly, all wearing smiles as they worked towards a comeback.
Meanwhile in the gallery, many known faces were seen supporting the cause. Mostafa Sarwar Farooki, Zahid Hasan, Riaz, Nipun, Manoj Pramanik Shahnaz Sumi, Sunerah Binte Kamal and Ridy Sheikh, among many others, were seen enjoying the match from the gallery.
Nearing the end of the 60-minute match, a penalty was awarded to the green team, much to the chagrin of their opponents.
However, no dull faces were seen after the match ended – at the end of the day, it was the revival of the film industry and the success of "Damal" that everyone in the gallery and field were rooting for.
The film will release on October 28, in theatres across the country.
