BGMEA urges Italy to invest more in Bangladesh
Local garment makers have urged the Italian clothing retailers and brands to source more apparel items from Bangladesh and invest more in the south Asian country.
Faruque Hassan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), made the call in a meeting in Dhaka on Saturday with Alessandro Liberatori, the newly appointed trade commissioner and director of trade promotion office of the Italian embassy.
At the meeting, they discussed possible avenues of strengthening development cooperation and boosting bilateral trade between the two countries, the BGMEA said in a statement today.
They also discussed how Bangladesh can increase apparel export to the Italy, especially in the high-end product segment, an area where Bangladeshi suppliers are putting a lot of emphasis now.
Hassan requested Liberatori to encourage Italian businessmen to invest in the emerging industrial sectors in Bangladesh, including the non-cotton textile sector.
