Nijhum Dwip inundated: 6,000 deer in danger
Nijhum Dwip union of Noakhali's Hatiya Upazila has been submerged in tidal surges and heavy rain caused by the influence of cyclone Sitrang.
More than 10,000 people have taken shelter in cyclone centres, Hatiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Selim Mia told The Daily Star around 9pm today (October 24, 2022). Many more are still stuck on the island.
Meanwhile, the lives of more than 6,000 deer in Nijhum Dwip National Park are at risk as water submerged the island, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting the UNO.
